It was early December and too cool and damp to work outside on papier-mâché. My art buddy, Gilda suggested that we paint indoors on small pieces of cardboard, or, in my case, canvas board. We had been to an art sale in East LA where there were lots of Day of the Dead items. A favorite theme is musicas or skeletons playing instruments. Since the season for skeletons had passed, I decided to paint snowmen, which are, in a way, fat skeletons.
My friend Marilyn, who lives in Massachusetts but wants to move to Santa Fe, loves mariachi music and snowmen so I thought she might get a kick out of recieving a painted Christmas card that combined the two. It is a tribute to my origins in snowy New England and my new life in sunny Southern California. As another friend put it, you have to have experienced both to appreciate it. But those who have, love them. Feliz Navidad!
